About Manali

Manali is one of the most sought after tourist spots in Himachal Pradesh (HP), North India. It is also famous as "Honeymoon Destination" among visitors. Manali has also mythological importance. It is the home of sage Manu who is supposed to have survived when the world was drowned in flood.

Locales in Manali:

Hadimba Temple: One of the ancient temples which is the major attraction of Manali is Dhoongri temple dedicated to Goddess Hadimba. The four-tiered pagoda roof and excellent wooden doorway is carved with legendary symbols. The temple is located in the wooden forest of Deodar. Every year, a large festival is held here in the month of May.

Vashist Hot Water Spring: Vashist is a small village placed on the left bank of river Beas is known for its hot springs and temples. Natural hot sulphur springs for visitors with two separate bathing tanks (one for ladies and one for gents) is the major attraction of this place.

Nehru Kund: At the national highway to Leh, a natural spring of cold clear water is situated. This spring is named after Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru. It is said that Nehru used to drink water from this spring during his stay in Manali.

Solang Valley: Solang is a splendid valley between Solang village and Beas Kund. The centre of attraction of Solang valley is the view of glaciers and snow capped mountains and peaks. It has fine ski-slopes and many mountaineering Institute has installed a ski-lift for training purpose.

Rahalla Falls: 16 Kms. on way to Rohtang pass, if one goes to Marhi on foot from the old road, the sight of the falls is fascinating. It is also a good picnic spot.

Rohtang Pass: Rohtang pass is 51 kms from Manali. It has astonishing Mountain View. It connects the Kullu valley with Lahul and Spiti valleys. Rohtang Pass is open from June to October each year.

Jagatsukha: It is located on the left bank on Beas on the road to Naggar. Jagatsukha is former capital of Manali famous for very old temples of Lord Shiva and Sandhya Gayatri in Shikhara style.

Manu Temple: This ancient temple is located about 3 km from the main bazaar of town Manali. It is the only existing temple in the country which is dedicated to sage Manu.

Gulaba Camp: It lies 20km from Manali and is famous for sightseeing, picnic and photography.

Tibetan Monasteries: Manali is famous for its Tibetan monasteries. These monasteries preserve the culture of Tibetan people. Recently, there are 3 new monasteries are constructed from where visitors can buy carpets and other Tibetan handicrafts. Two of them are located in the town and one on the left bank of Beas River.

Kullu Dusshera: Dussehra at Kullu commences on 'Vijay Dashmi' that is the tenth day of the rising moon. The festival is celebrated for the victory of the God Ram over evil Ravana. This ten day long festival falls in the month of October and is considered to be one of the most sacred festivals. The people invoke and parade the Gods during these days. They remain busy buying, selling during all the seven days of the festival. On the last day of the festival, the cart of Raghunathji has taken near the banks of Beas. A pile of wood grass is set on fire near the bank which indicates the burning of Lanka.

Manikaran : Manikaran is located 45 km from Kullu between Vyaas and Parvati River. It is a famous pilgrimage destination for Hindu and Sikh community in the state of Himachal Pradesh. The literal meaning of Manikaran is jewel of ear. Manikaran is known for its hot springs which are uncomfortably hot. The water of spring is so hot that even one can cook food in that water. According to Hindu Mythology, while roaming around, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, reached to this place. Enchanted by the beauty of the place, they decided to stay here for some time. It is believed that they spent eleven hundred years here.
